Assistant Professor at Morehouse College
Wallace Sharif is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Sharif teaches General Biology and Biochemistry, and serves as an academic advisor to several on-campus science research scholarship programs.
Dr. Sharif graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in Chemistry, and received his Ph.D. from the Vanderbilt University Department of Biochemistry in 2003, where he studied meiotic homologous recombination. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in the laboratories of Drs. Woody Wright and Jerry Shay, studying the suppression of gene expression and recombination in telomeric regions of human chromosomes.
His current research interests involve the role of telomerase in response to severe cellular hypoxia, and in using telomere length as a diagnostic measure of health status in African Americans.
